About the Artist: California artist N. Totten Mack is a nationally recognized and award winning artist specializing in the media of Soft Pastel and Oils.  Her work has been exhibited in many exclusive shows and galleries throughout the US and is collected by art lovers around the world.  She has been painting and drawing from an early age and with formal training in Design and Composition has developed a style of painting inspired by the great American turn-of-the-century artists such as Thomas Eakins and Winslow Homer.   Through her sense of color and skillful blending of realistic and impressionistic styles of painting, she captures nature's amazing beauty in her delightful landscapes and seascapes.

"I love to travel along coastal regions and sometimes work from photos I've taken, however, weather permitting, my first choice is to paint outdoors - "en plein air."   One of the most attractive themes in painting for me is the play between light and shadow.  How, depending on what an object may be adjacent to or even what time of year it is, makes an impact on my color choices and the mood of the painting as well."  As in the words of Winslow Homer..."When I have selected the thing carefully, I paint it exactly as it appears."

Some of her accomplishments in the art community include serving as Membership Chair and V. President of the Pastel Society of the West Coast; one of the City of Auburn's first Arts Commissioners; Originator and Co-Founder of Auburn's Old Town Gallery of Fine Art, just to mention a few.
